Finding Your Role

Vote4Dance has five primary roles. Most people have exactly one role, but some people might have multiple (for example, being both a school administrator and a dancer).

Use this flow to identify which role applies to you.

Quick Check: What’s Your Main Purpose?

“I want to organize and run a dance competition or event”

Your role: ORGANIZER

You are the person (or team) that:

  • Creates the event in the Manager app
  • Configures divisions, classes, competitions, and rounds
  • Assigns judges and staff
  • Controls registration and check-in
  • Manages judging during the event
  • Publishes results

Next: Go to the Organizer role hub

“I manage a school, dance team, or independent dance studio”

Your role: SCHOOL/CLUB

You are the organization that:

  • Registers with a federation (if required)
  • Has a roster of dancers/members
  • Registers your dancers for events
  • Applies for licenses on behalf of your members
  • Manages your organization’s profile and team information

Next: Go to the School/Club role hub

“I’m part of a national, regional, or local governing body”

Your role: FEDERATION

You are the organization that:

  • Sets policies for who can compete (licenses, eligibility)
  • Defines license requirements and pricing
  • Approves schools and clubs to participate
  • Creates and manages rankings across multiple events
  • Handles federation-wide governance

Next: Go to the Federation role hub

“I’m a dancer, student, or competitor”

Your role: DANCER

You are the person who:

  • Gets licensed (if your federation requires it)
  • Registers for specific events
  • Competes in competitions
  • Views your rankings and results
  • May transfer between age groups, classes, or teams

Next: Go to the Dancer role hub

“I verify results, handle appeals, or oversee judging quality”

Your role: SCRUTINEER

You are the person who:

  • Reviews scores and judging decisions
  • Resolves judging disputes or appeals
  • Verifies that final results are correct
  • May be responsible for ranking accuracy
  • Acts as an independent official

Next: Go to the Scrutineer role hub

Do You Have Multiple Roles?

It’s common to play multiple roles depending on the context:

  • School principal + Event organizer: You might represent your school in one federation while organizing a separate showcase event
  • Dancer + School administrator: You might be a dancer in your school’s team while also helping manage the team roster
  • Federation staff + Event organizer: You might work for a federation while also organizing a specific championship event

For each role above that applies to you, go through that role hub’s steps. The workflows are designed to work independently, so you can handle each responsibility separately.

Still Not Sure?

If you’re unsure which role applies, start by answering this question:

Am I setting up/running an event, or am I participating in/supporting a participant in an event?

  • Setting up/running an eventORGANIZER
  • Participating or supporting others → One of the other four roles
