Age moves: your part

Your age rules are applied in two places:

When What happens Who
At every registration Vote4Dance checks the competitor against the class’s age group and your age category rules. Automatic
At the start of each season The age-up batch moves competitors that have outgrown their age group to the same class one age group up. You run it, Federation → Members → Competitors

Before the season: set the rules

  1. Season start (MM-DD), so ages are counted for the right year. Age is counted by birth year: the year the season ends minus the birth year. Write it as month and day with two digits each, for example 09-01 for 1 September. A date that does not exist, such as 02-30 or 9-01, is not saved: you get “The season start is not a date. Write it as month-day, for example 09-01 for 1 September.” The same season start decides what counts as “this season” on Statistics.
  2. Age groups with their bands, under Federation → Structure. See Divisions.
  3. Whose age counts for couples and groups: for example the oldest member, or every member. See Age category rules.
  4. Ranking carry on age move, if results should follow a competitor into the new age group’s ranking.

Check the combined result in Federation → Rulebook. Publish the rules to clubs before the season, so the batch holds no surprises.

At the start of the season: run the batch

  1. Set the Effective date.
  2. Preview. Every candidate is listed with its current and target class.
  3. Tick the competitors to move. Nothing is ticked by default. Under most rules a competitor may stay in an age group with no upper limit, so tick only those that must move or have started in the new one.
  4. Optionally set a points carryover.
  5. Run age-up.

Rows that cannot move are hidden at first, and each keeps its reason. The full procedure: Age moves. Running the batch needs the Administrator role.

Edge cases

Case What to do
A couple’s younger partner is below the target band Decide it in your rules, not case by case. Oldest member decides on the target class or category makes such couples movable, and registration then accepts them too.
A competitor needs a move outside the batch Edit the class membership on the Competitors tab. It is recorded in the history.
A dancer has no birth date They add it to their account. Without it, some age groups block registration.
