Age moves for your club’s competitors

At the start of each season, the federation moves competitors that have outgrown their age group into the same class one age group up. The club does not run or approve this. What the club can do is make sure the data is right, and register its competitors in the right age group.

What the club should know

• Age is counted by birth year, for the year the season ends, not by birthday.
• For a couple or team, the federation’s rules decide whose age counts. Often the older partner decides, but some age groups need every dancer to have reached the age.
• An age group with an upper limit must be left. From an age group with no upper limit, a couple can usually stay until it starts competing in the next one.
• Registration checks all of this. A class a competitor does not fit is shown as locked, with the reason.

What the club can do

Before the season:

1. Make sure every dancer has a birth date on their account. Dancers add it themselves in their account settings. Without it, you also cannot apply for their licence.
2. Tell couples close to an age limit which age group they will be in, and to ask the federation if they are unsure.

Before each registration closes:

1. Look over your club’s entries on Organization → Administration → Registration.
2. An entry in the wrong age group: cancel it and register again in the right class, while the period is open. After that, ask the organizer.

If the federation has a couple in the wrong age group

The club cannot change a competitor’s age group. Ask the federation, and include the couple, the dancers’ birth years, the age group they are in and the one you expect.
